What is Evaporation?
Evaporation is a process used to concentrate a solution by removing the solvent (typically water) through the application of heat. The solvent is evaporated, condensed, and separated from the concentrated liquid.
Multi-Effect Evaporator (MEE) Overview
A Multi-Effect Evaporator is an energy-efficient evaporation system that uses multiple stages (effects), each operating at a lower pressure than the previous.
The system uses steam as the heating source, and vapor from one stage heats the next, reducing energy consumption.
Working Principle of Multi-Effect Evaporator
The operation of a multi-effect evaporator includes the following steps:
- Feed Introduction
The liquid is fed into the first effect using a pump and flows through each effect. - Heat Transfer
Steam is introduced to the first effect. It condenses and transfers its latent heat to the liquid, causing evaporation. - Vapor Recompression
The vapor from one effect is used to heat the next. This process continues across all stages, each operating at lower pressure. - Concentrated Product Collection
The final effect produces a concentrated liquid, while the vapor condenses and is recovered as distillate.

FAQs – Multi-Effect Evaporators
Q1. What is the purpose of a multi-effect evaporator?
A multi-effect evaporator is used to concentrate liquids by evaporating water or other solvents using steam. It minimizes energy consumption by reusing heat from one effect to another.
Q2. How many effects are typically used?
The number of effects can vary based on process needs, typically ranging from 2 to 7 stages. More effects lead to greater energy efficiency.
Q3. What is the difference between fully and semi-automatic systems?
- Fully automatic systems offer real-time monitoring and automated control, suitable for continuous operation.
- Semi-automatic systems provide manual control with partial automation, ideal for flexible or batch operations.
Q4. Can the system handle corrosive liquids?
We engineer each system with materials like SS, Duplex, Hastelloy, or other alloys to handle corrosive or aggressive media.
